HomeCareDirect have been providing a direct payments support at home service for all England since 2004 offering "A New Approach to Support at Home".
The Government's direct payments scheme has been around for many years and it is now starting to become mainstream. Many council's have now set targets to have 100% direct payments/individual budgets by the year 2010. Direct payments and individual budgets have therefore become main Government policy of giving people more control of their life and of who and when people come into their home to provide their support.
In 2009 the Government are setting up pilot trials for 8,000 people around England to receive PCT 'Continuing Care' health funding, to enable people to be in control of their support at home funded by the PCT. This is in addition to 'Social' funding from the Local Authority. HCD is looking to be offered to people as a choice on this national pilot. HCD already does support people at home funded by continuing care health funding. It is changing people's lives for the better and it is wonderful to see.
Most County Councils around England are starting to combine the funding for support at home from both the local Primary Care Trust for 'Health' funding and the Local Authority for 'Social' funding. This is starting to be of significant benefit to many people in their support at home and it makes it easier for people to take control of who comes into their home to provide their support, irrespective of the funding source.
HCD can now be used by people all over England to take control of their support at home.
